Foundations in Cooperative Learning
This workshop will provide both a conceptual framework
and hands on experience in planning and implementing cooperative learning in the
college classroom. Participants will gain insight into structuring
cooperative activities using the key elements. Forming and troubleshooting
groups will be addressed, in addition to using groups for assessment and
critical thinking in the classroom. Discipline specific cooperative
learning activities will be described and modeled.
Fundamentals of Active Critical Thinking
This model developed by SCALE, Southern Center for Active Learning
Excellence, creates a new way to increase critical thinking, encourage logic and
improve academic outcomes. Steps to expand students’ cognition and
knowledge beyond the regurgitation of information will be emphasized. Strategies
and examples will lead the dialogue of uses of critical thinking ASSIGNments in
the classroom. *
*FACT training participation requires previous training in fundamentals of
cooperative learning.
